Performance Poetry Showcase with Chucky BLK and Joe Brundidge

  • Huston-Tillotson University (map)

Poetry, through its artful marshaling of sound and sense, can communicate emotionally as well as intellectually – can connect with the heart at the same time as the head. (“Poetry is a way of taking life by the throat,” as Robert Frost put it.) At this unique spoken-word event, some of Austin’s most vibrant, vitalizing performance poets take the stage to offer up their lyric gifts in the service of exploring and exposing questions of truth most crucial to our common life.

Poet and emcee Charles Dwain Stephens, a.k.a. Chucky BLK, was a member of the 2014 and 2015 Austin Poetry Slam Team, a Group Piece Finalist at the National Poetry Slam.

Author and public speaker Joe Brundidge has hosted open mic events for almost 20 years. He served as the director of the Austin International Poetry Festival from 2012-2015.

This event is part of the New Story Festival and sponsored by LOGOS Poetry Collective. Find more information about the festival here.
